muraille rue Clovis

Just for the pleasure of it a beautiful picture taken by Gerri Kotkamp in 1974. You will see that the present plaque is not there yet. This sign is anyway wrong since it indicates that the wall was built in the 12th century. We know for a fact that this particular section of the wall was the last one built, mcuh nearer to 1210 thant 1190. THe sign should then have mentionef 13th instead of 12th century.

muraille rue Clovis
The regular strucutre of the stones visible in the lower half of the photo dates back to a much later period than the wall, of 1809, date of the digging of this part of the rue CLovis. The street passed lower than the foundations of the wall and a wall had to make sure it would be stable.
