rue des EcolesAt the entrance of the gate leading to the post office, rue du Cardinal Lemoine, a map of the building implantation. It clearly shows that an archeological room has been set on the second underground level, allowing to observe the passage of a wall above the river Bièvre.

Visits : 2.30 p.m first Wednesday of each month

This post office is the only one in Paris to sell stamped envelopes, illustrated with a picture of the wall where it crosses the Bievre.

arche au-dessus de la Bièvre

The arch of the wall that crossed the Bievre was 5.2 meters high under the vault and 2.90 meters wide. An intervall of 16cm wide and 14.5 cm deep must have allowed to close the passage with a gate to prevent the enemy from penetrating into Paris. It may have been a portcullis but as soon as Charles V had doubled the wall with a dicth the gate must have become fixed. This vault was restored in november 1991
