Short chronology of events

Born in 1165, he died in 1223 and became king in 1180.

When his father, Louis VII dies, he is only 15 years old, and already confronted with a coalition of important lords from Flanders, Champagne and Burgundy. He manages to take Artois, Vendomois adn Amiens.

Leaving for the crusades in 1190, he comes back a year later. He takes hold of Normandy, as Richard the Lion Heart had been arrested and delivered to Henry VI in 1194. When Richard dies, Philippe Auguste goes on fighting against the new king of England, John. He invades Normandy in 1202, and during the two following years, Touraine, Anjou and Poitou. He wins the battle of Bouvines in 1214 against John.

During his reign the royal domain became much bigger.

H e marries first Isabelle de Hainaut, then when she dies in 1190, he marries Ingeburg from Danemark in 1193. But he repudiates her immedialtely and gets married with Agnes de Marenie. He is condemned by Pope Innocent III and the kingdom is forbidden. At his third wife's death he agrees on calling back Ingebruge.
